Saffron City

"The Land of Shining Golden Commerce"

Saffron City is one of the largest in the land. It is also blocked by Team Rocket. Some of the Rockets have blocked the entrances to several places in the city, including the Pokémon Gym. Go to Mr. Psychic’s house in the bottom of the city, and talk to him. You’ll receive TM29 (Psychic). Then go to the gym that isn’t blocked off, the Fighting Dojo. The Pokémon in the dojo are fighting-type, so psychic Pokémon like Kadabra are best. When you defeat the Karate Master in the dojo, you’ll receive a Pokémon -- either Hitmonlee or Hitmonchan. Choose the one you want. Exit the dojo, and go into the entrance of the biggest building in the city, Silph Co.

A popular company that invented the Poké Balls and other Pokémon stuff, Silph Co. is a very big building. What’s unique about this building is that it includes diamond-shaped tiles called teleporters. These teleporters take you anywhere in the building. You can easily get lost in the teleporters, but there is a simple way to reach the top of this building:

  • Use the elevator to go to the fifth floor.
  • Find the teleporter on the south side of the floor, enter it. Then re-enter the teleporter. Then go down and right to find the Card Key.
  • Once you have the Card Key, go to the third floor and use the Card Key to open the door on the floor. Then open the next door on the floor, and go on the teleporter in the room. Then keep going and you’ll meet Gary.

After defeating Gary, talk to the man nearby. He’ll give you a Lapras. Go on the second teleporter. Defeat the Rocket, then open the door and enter the room. Giovanni will walk up and challenge you...

After defeating Giovanni, talk to the President in the room. He’ll thank you for his rescue, and in return, he gives you a Master Ball, which catches Pokémon without fail. Since the Master Ball is a unique item, it’s very important that you save this item until you really need it. (Use the PC nearby and deposit the Master Ball.) When you leave the Silph building, the members of Team Rocket leave Saffron City, making it safe for the public again.

Now that Team Rocket has left Saffron, it would be appropriate if you stay a while. First, go to Celadon City’s department store (fourth floor) and buy a Pok Doll, if you don’t already have one. When you come back to Saffron, go to Copycat’s house (the one at the top of the city), go upstairs and talk to Copycat. Give her the Pok Doll and she’ll give you TM31 (Mimic). Mimic allows a Pokémon to learn the attack of another Pokémon. The Pokémon learns the new attack during the whole battle. Now, if your Pokémon are up to it, go to the Saffron Gym.

The Gym Leader here is Sabrina, and her gym has nine squares surrounded by walls. The diamond-shaped tiles, you may remember, are teleporters. To reach Sabrina faster, always take the teleporter to the right or left of you, and try to dodge the trainers, too.
