Types and Battle Styles
Pokémon Types
The game finds out, for each type, the number of Pokémon a Trainer has that are of that type. If no type has more Pokémon than any other type, the Trainer "has no clear favorites when it comes to type."
Move Categories
For the purposes of determining a Trainer’s battle style in the Battle Factory, there are seven categories of moves corresponding to a different battle style. The first step the game does is to figure out the number of moves a Trainer has that belong to each category. Moves not listed below do not belong to any category. A move can be counted more than once if more than one Pokémon has that move. For example, if two Pokémon know Swords Dance, then Swords Dance is counted twice.
- Category 1: "The favorite battle style appears to be one based on total preparation."
SWORDS DANCE, GROWTH, MEDITATE, AGILITY, DOUBLE TEAM, HARDEN, MINIMIZE, WITHDRAW, DEFENSE CURL, BARRIER, FOCUS ENERGY, AMNESIA, ACID ARMOR, SHARPEN, CONVERSION, CONVERSION 2, BELLY DRUM, PSYCH UP, CHARGE, SNATCH, TAIL GLOW, COSMIC POWER, IRON DEFENSE, HOWL, BULK UP, CALM MIND, DRAGON DANCE

Battle Styles
There are nine different battle styles in the Battle Factory. The next step the game does is find out whether the Trainer has at least a certain number of moves belonging to each category above. If the game can’t find a match, then the battle style "appears to be free-spirited and unrestrained." If the game finds three or more matching categories, then the battle style "appears to be flexibly adaptable to the situation." If the game finds two matching categories, then it chooses the last category for which it found a match.
- The favorite battle style appears to be free-spirited and unrestrained. - No categories with enough moves.
- ...to be one based on total preparation. - At least 3 moves from Category 1.
- ...to be slow and steady. - At least 3 moves from Category 2.
- ...to be one of endurance. - At least 3 moves from Category 3.
- ...to be high risk, high return. - At least 2 moves from Category 4.
- ...to be weakening the foe to start. - At least 2 moves from Category 5.
- ...to be impossible to predict. - At least 2 moves from Category 6.
- ...to depend on the battle’s flow. - At least 2 moves from Category 7.
- ...to be flexibly adaptable to the situation. - At least 3 categories that have enough moves.
The Opposing Trainers' Pokémon
The process ensures that all Pokémon have different items. In a Level 50 battle, the Pokémon is reselected if a Pokémon’s number is 850 or greater. If a Pokémon is an Unown, the Pokémon is reselected.
If a Pokémon has the same species as that of one of the player’s rental Pokémon, it is reselected.
The friendship of all Pokémon that opposing Trainers have is set to 0. Any instance of Return is changed to Frustration.
The opposing Pokémon and rental Pokémon are chosen depending on the number of consecutive battles won.
Consecutive Wins | Level 50 | Open Level |
