Battle Rules
In a Battle Frontier or Battle Tent challenge, each Pokémon entered must be of a different species and, unless noted otherwise, no more than one Pokémon entered can hold the same item. Mew, Mewtwo, Ho-Oh, Lugia, Celebi, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Jirachi, Deoxys, and Eggs are not allowed to enter. The number of Pokémon that must be entered varies as follows:
- Battle Arena/Fallarbor Battle Tent: 3. Supports Single Battles only.
- Battle Dome: 3 for Single Battles, 3 for Double Battles. Before each battle, the player selects two Pokémon from among those entered.
- Battle Factory/Slateport Battle Tent: no need to enter Pokémon. Supports Single Battles. Battle Factory also supports Double Battles. Each battle uses 3 Pokémon.
- Battle Palace/Verdanturf Battle Tent: 3 for Single Battles, 3 for Double Battles.
- Battle Pike: 3. Supports Single Battles only.
- Battle Pyramid: 3. The three Pokémon entered can’t be holding items. Supports Single Battles only.
- Battle Tower: 3 for Single Battles, 4 for Double Battles, 2 for Multi Battles.
All Battle Frontier challenges offer the choice between Level 50 and Open Level. In the Level 50 option, each Pokémon must be level 50 or lower, and opposing Pokémon are level 50. For Open Level, any level Pokémon is allowed, but opposing Pokémon levels are set to the highest level among the entered Pokémon, but not less than level 50. (In the Battle Factory, all rental Pokémon are level 50 for the level 50 option, and level 100 for the Open Level option.)
For Verdanturf and Fallarbor Battle Tent challenges, any level Pokémon is allowed, but opposing Pokémon’s levels are set to the highest level among the entered Pokémon, but not less than level 30. In the Slateport Battle Tent, all rental Pokémon are level 30. All three Battle Tents support Single Battles only.
Top Pokémon Breeder
The Top Breeder in the Battle Frontier will rate Pokémon based on their Individual Values, as shown here:
Sum of all Individual Values
- 0-90: This one, overall, I would describe as being of average ability.
- 91-120: This one, overall, I would describe as having better-than-average ability.
- 121-150: This one, overall, I would say is quite impressive in ability!
- 151-186: This one, overall, I would say is wonderfully outstanding in ability!
Highest Individual Value
"Incidentally, the best aspect of it, I would say, is its [stat]..."
- 0-15: That stat is relatively good....Hm... That’s how I call it.
- 16-25: That stat is quite impressive....Hm... That’s how I call it.
- 26-30: That stat is outstanding!...Hm... That’s how I call it.
- 31: It’s flawless! A thing of perfection!...Hm... That’s how I call it.
If more than one IV is the highest, a random IV from among them is chosen.
Ineligible Pokémon
Mewtwo, Mew, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Celebi, Kyogre, Groudon, Jirachi, Deoxys, and Eggs may not participate.
Notes
A battle that ends in a double knockout (other than in Link Battles) always results in a loss for the player, except in the Battle Dome.
